Marlin Hess

Marlin John Hess died Monday, December 20, 2010, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center at the age of 86. He was born February 1, 1924, in St. Louis, the son of John Joseph Hess, Sr. and Alvina H. Hess (nee Hoffarth).

He attended Garfield Elementary School and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1943. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years as a claim adjuster retiring in 1978. During his retirement years, he worked at J. C. Penney, South County Mall, as Ambassador of Good Will.

He was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Imperial, MO. He always cheered for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He was a member of Algabil-Freedom Lodge No. 636 and a member of Pomegranate Chapter No. 397, serving as Worthy Patron in 1950, 1967, and 1994. He served as Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Missouri, Order of the Eastern Star in 1979-1980 and subsequently served on the ESTARL Committee.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Imperial, MO. A reception at the church will follow. Interment will be at Antonia Cemetery.

Survivors include a niece, Pamela Huttsell of Fayette, MO; a nephew, Randolph Hess of Las Vegas, NV; 3 great nieces, 3 great nephews, 5 great-great nieces, several cousins, the love of his life, Jeanette Rammelsberg of St. Louis and her wonderful family, and precious friends Edna and Mickey Ambrose of Barnhart, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, John Joseph Hess, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made directly to St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Choir Fund, 6610 St. Luke’s Church Road, Imperial, MO 63052-2244.
