Rick was a great guy to work with. I knew him as a client, then as a co-worker, and the roles didn’t affect his genuine respect and care for those around him. He was always the friendly face in the room. I will miss him. My heart and my prayers go out to Rick’s wife and children, and the Dodd family. Thanks for sharing Rick with us.

Rick (Junior) played ice hockey with the MADCO group at the East Alton Rink for many years with his dad Dick (Senior) who still plays. Rick was always a talented, intense competitor and joy to be around in the locker room. All of us in MADCO kept up with Rick’s illness through his Dad and are saddened for his family, his friends and ourselves by his loss.

Mimi, Trey and Sam, where does one begin. Never has anyone had just an effect on my life as Rick and your entire family did. Rick was truly a very special friend and will be forever missed. The unconditional kindness your entire family showed me in my time of need will never be forgotten. Although many miles separate us, please know that if there is anything at all that I can do, please do not hesitate to contact me. With all my love, thoughts and prayer, Deb Wolf.

Our prayers are with your family. This little quote comforts us, as we think Rick and his amazing family touched so many.
“There’s a prayer that says the only way any of us ever achieve immortality is by living on in the hearts of those who love us and thoughts of those who remember us.” Dr. Joy Browne
Rick lives on in many of us!!!!!!!! God hold you in his tender arms.

As with many others in the hockey community of Saint Louis it is with great sadness that I learned of Rick’s passing last Monday May 3rd. I only knew Rick a few years and met him through another friend in hockey. While doing business for some of Rick’s many activities we became friends and I always enjoyed any chance to share time and conversation with Rick. Several times during his “journey” I was able to share some time with Rick and it always left me with a grateful feeling that at least I got to meet him and get to know him as I dreaded the day would come when others would not be so lucky. That day was last Monday and I will always remember the place, time and situation when I heard the news that we lost this great man. I could go on but I won’t other than to say Rick and his journey have given me a lot better perspective on how precious life is and how we should enjoy each day and all the people we encounter more. Rick’s attitude and desire to fight and LIVE, even when faced with what he had to endure will always be something I try to emulate. Rick Dodd made a positive and lasting impression on me, both before, and after his illness was discovered and for that I am glad to have known him.

    Blessed is his memory!

    Dear Mimi and family –
I was so sad to see Rick’s obituary in the paper over the weekend. It was such an honor for me to spend time with Rick and you all during my last couple weeks with hospice. His courage and spirit of gratitude touched me – as did the compassion, love, and respect I witnessed in your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
    Sincerely, Katy Miller
