Shari Loyd

Shari Lynn Loyd, RN

1/7/1948 – 8/4/2010

Shari was born in Denver, CO to Anna Maloney and Jospeh Couch.  She was to move numerous times as she was growing up as her family followed the work on the oil and gas pipeline.

In 1983, she realized her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse when she graduated from the St. Louis University School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science dgree in Nursing and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.  After successfully completing her Missouri State Board Exam, she entered active duty with the U.S. Army Medical Corps

She went to Ft. Sam Houston, TX for Officer Basic and then went on to serve at General Leonard Wood Hospital, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, TX; and the Army Field Hospital in Bremerhaven, Germany.  There were stops along the way for advanced training at Ft. Sam Houston.  She served in the Army for eight years.

Shari was known as a caring individual.  She not only provided care to the patients in her charge, she also took an interest in the enlisted personnel who served under her as well as her peers.  She was always ready to share her knowledge and experience.

While on active duty, and for a period afterward, she served as an American Red Cross instructor and instructor trainer in various health and safety classes.

Wherever she was posted, she was active in a local church demonstrating her faith by her works in outreach to the community.

After leaving the Army and Europe, Shari continued to practice her nursing at various hospitals and home health agencies over the years.  She also served as an instructor in an educational setting.

Shari was loved by many.  She will be missed greatly.  She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Loyd, her daughter, Misty Lynn Mitchell, and her step-daughter, Elizabeth Ann Cohen, as well as her three grandchildren, Joshua and Aaron Roller and Kaitlyn Cohen.

A memorial service will be held at Oasis Church, 1595 Archer Dr., Arnold, MO 63010 on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.

In place of flowers, the family requests that donations in Shari’s memory be made to the Susan G. Komen Denver Foundation, 1835 Franklin St., Denver, CO 80218.  Donations may also be made on-line at www.komendenver.org.
