Alice June Trebus

Alice June Trebus (Pankow) was called home July 24, 2024. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 17, 1954, Alice was the daughter of Lutheran missionaries, Edith and Fred, who laid foundation for her faith as well as her career path as a nurse. Her parents’ work gave her the opportunity to live in Havana, Houston, Queens, and Edwardsville, but she eventually made her home in the Saint Louis area. After graduating from Lutheran School of Nursing, she served her community with dedication in various roles at nursing homes, private home care, Children’s Hospital, and Barnes Jewish ICU. Although renal failure cut her vocational life very short, Alice was given a remarkable renewed chance at life through the gift of organ donation. The selfless acts of her dear friend, Tim McGue, and a second anonymous donor granted her nearly 20 more years of milestones, including winning Silver in Swimming at the 2006 U.S. Transplant Games. Alice was an avid reader who enjoyed writing comedic poetry, visiting the Botanical Gardens, eating specialty chocolate, and volunteering as a writer for the Biblical website, GotQuestions.org.

Alice is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Judy. She is survived by beloved sister, Becky; cherished daughter, Alicia; and dear son-in-law, Marty. She will be remembered fondly as the most doting cat grandma in town!

A memorial service and luncheon will be held in her honor at Gethsemane Lutheran (765 Lemay Ferry Rd.) on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024. Visitation begins at 10:30 AM, and service begins at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The National Kidney Foundation or Compassion International.
