Alice was born April 22, 1938, in Phillips County KS, where she attended a one-room school before going to Logan (KS) schools from which she graduated in 1956. At JBS, she led new-teacher orientation, served as math department chair and was a member of the Faculty Executive Committee.

Her true vocation lay in teaching: conveying the beauty in mathematics and nurturing the growth of her students. Students marveled at her patience with them and her persistence in finding ways to encourage their learning. She was honored by the gift to the school of an endowed chair in her name for excellence in teaching.

At home, she loved math puzzles and crossword puzzles; she read and wrote poetry; she enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, and card games. She attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Webster Groves, MO serving on the Altar Guild, the Vestry and the Food Center administrative team.
