Allen Thomas Barnes

Allen Thomas Barnes, 74, loving husband and father passed away peacefully in his home on November 18th, 2025, after a short illness.

Allen was born and educated in St. Louis, MO. He enlisted in the US Air Force after graduation for four honorable years and then went on to do twenty years in the Air Force Reserves; retiring as a MSGT.

He met his wife, Joyce Haznar, while being stationed at Westover AFB in Chicopee, Massachusetts. They married in 1974 and had a son, Jeremy Allen. They were married for 51 wonderful years.

He was the son of Evelyn Limpert and the late Allen S. Barnes.

Allen is survived by his son Jeremy & Caroline from Massachusetts, his mother Evelyn, his brother James, his sisters Denise Oppermann, Carol & George Morrison, Evelyn Williams, and Janice & Terry Kramer. His brother, Brian, died in May of this year. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Joel and Debbie Haznar from Massachusetts; as well as a sister and nephew-in-law Gale and Wesley Olesen of Mystic, Connecticut. Allen has many nieces, nephews, and aunts & uncles and many cousins from a very large family.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, swap meets, classic cars, and car shows with his son. He was a loyal Cardinals and Chiefs fan. Allen had tremendous respect for his country and especially all branches of the military. He was a true patriot.

Allen was a lover of dogs, especially for his little Daisy and the many hunting dogs that are gone. He was a gentle soul and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was definitely one of God’s greatest creations and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Especially by his wife and son who knew him best. Jeremy says his Dad was the best friend he ever had.

Allen was a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Church in High Ridge, MO.

He was employed for 30 years in the refueling of planes at Westover AFB in Chicopee, Massachusetts; retiring in 2008. He lived in Massachusetts until 2010 when he and his wife moved back to St. Louis to spend time with his large family.

Allen will be buried in the U.S. Military Cemetery in Agawam, Massachusetts. There will be no funeral in St. Louis.

Although I didn’t know MSgt. Allen T. Barnes here at Westover Air Reserve Base, it has been brought to my attention that he was very well thought of. MSgt. Barnes has now accomplished his last “refueling of any type aircraft” for it’s mission, as well as he has accomplished his final base transportation requirements. My thoughts now turn to MSgt. Barnes has now have taken his “final flight on the wings of an eagle”. I thank him for his service to our country while serving on active duty, as well as his participation with the Air Force Reserve and the 439th Air Wing at Westover ARB. Slow hand Salute for his service.
