Angeleen H. Gamache

Our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Angeleen Helen (Barbagallo) Gamache died Monday, May 14, after a long battle with cancer.

She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Helen Barbagallo of Imperial, MO; her brother Walter Barbagallo and nephew Michael Barbagallo (her God son). She is survived by two daughters, Angela Breeher (Gary) and Stephanie Moeslein, her sister Helen Grew (Mark) and brothers Alfred Barbagallo (Joyce), Gene Barbagallo (Gale) and sister-in-law Jean Barbagallo (Walter, deceased). She was a loving grandmother to William Bader, Daniel Bader, Phillip Breeher (Melissa), Sophia Chrissos, and Atisak Kuntholbutra (her “honorary” grandson). Angeleen will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and all of her dear friends.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Angeleen was the daughter of two hardworking parents: Fred Barbagallo (a Sicilian immigrant and successful businessman) and Helen Sophie (Blank) Barbagallo (a descendant of one of St. Louis’s founding families and successful farming family). Angeleen was baptized at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Lemay, MO where she attended grade school. She grew up in south St. Louis County, where her family grew produce on their 30+ acre farm. Angeleen graduated from Mehlville High School in 1957 and maintained her High School friendships until her death.

She is a 1983 graduate of St. Louis Community College (Forest Park), earning her Associate’s degree in Hospitality-Restaurant Management and acquiring the skills of a Chef Garde Manger. She worked professionally at Casa Gaillardo (kitchen manager) and Gloria Jean’s Coffee (Store Manager), among other local restaurants.

Angeleen loved her family and doted on her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She especially enjoyed hosting family celebrations, with “family” extending well beyond the literal definition! Angeleen made every gathering special with her attention to details. No one enjoyed cooking, decorating and entertaining for the holidays more than Angeleen! She also loved animals (especially her dogs) and was a long-time supporter of the prevention of cruelty to animals.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 24, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (6518 Michigan Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63111) with a reception in the parish hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to

How very odd that I was thinking of Angeleen just a few days ago and when I recently visited Kimmswick, MO. It is with a very heavy heart I convey my most sincerest condolences to Angela and Stephanie as well as the rest of the family. Angie was a very special person who used to be a very good friend of my deceased mother, Alberta Paparic. I pray Angie and mom are happily enjoying each other’s spirits in heaven.
