Ann Udell Fisher Doerr
Ann Udell Fisher Doerr passed away quietly in her sleep at home on Monday, March 15, 2021 at the age of 82. After a long battle with COPD and congestive heart failure, her family was blessed with the opportunity to say good-bye before her passing. She is survived by her daughter Leigh Ann Johnson (Dave), sister Mary Kirkpatrick, her grandchildren Brennan (Kari), Allyson Kassebaum (Travis), Jonathan (Hannah) and Owen Benkert, Mitchell and Lauren Johnson, and six great-grandchildren. Ann was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John H. (Jack) Doerr, daughter Beth Benkert (Charlie), and her parents Dorothy and Frank Fisher.
Ann was born in Dallas, Texas and moved to Tulsa, OK and Columbus, OH while she was growing up. She graduated from DePauw University with a degree in History, and was a proud sister of Alpha Chi Omega’s Alpha chapter. After college Ann moved to St. Louis, where she met Jack Doerr at a VW Club rally. They married and settled in Kirkwood where they lived while their daughters were in school. Ann was self-employed by Doerr Contracting, the asphalt paving company she and Jack founded. In 2013 Ann became a resident of Friendship Village Sunset Hills, where she resided for the last few years of her life. She enjoyed her exercise class, making new friends, and volunteering for AARP Tax Aide for many years.
Ann had a great love of musical theater and was a long-time supporter of Stages in Kirkwood and The Muny in St. Louis. Ann’s love for history and generosity brought her membership in the Mayflower Society of Missouri and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In fact, her ancestors helped turn-of-the-century St. Louis grow. The Fishers built railroads in Illinois to connect St. Louis to Chicago, while the Udells owned a furniture manufacturing company here. Later in life, Ann and her husband Jack would continue the tradition of building with their own West County asphalt paving company, Doerr Contracting. Ann’s deep love for family and roots lives on in her children and grandchildren.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life at a later date. Contact the family or St. Francis’ Episcopal Church in Eureka for more info if you would like to attend.
