Austera “Terry” Walker Schulte

Austera “Terry” Walker Schulte died in St Louis, Missouri on April 14, 2021, at the age of 88. Before moving to St Louis, Terry lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her husband, Dick, who predeceased her by 9 months. The couple raised their family on the Root River Parkway in Greenfield (just southwest of Milwaukee). They then retired and split their time between their condo on Milwaukee’s lakefront and their small rural cottage near the town of Kellnersville (Wisconsin).

Terry was born January 25, 1933 to Kenneth and Austera Walker in Bismarck, ND. Terry met Dick while attending Marquette University where she studied theology. The two married in 1957 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage before his death in 2020.

Hers was a life of service. Terry volunteered and served the needs of the parishes to which she belonged. These included St. Mary Parish in Hales Corners (Wisconsin), Three Holy Women in Milwaukee, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in New Berlin (Wisconsin), and the community of Our Lady of Life Senior Apartments in St Louis. She ministered in a variety of capacities at each parish and will be remembered fondly by many. A lifelong learner, in 2006, at the age of 73, Terry was awarded her Master of Arts in Servant Leadership from Virterbo University.

Surviving are five children: Anne (and Joseph) Hagen of St Louis, Ted Schulte of Milwaukee, Karl Schulte of Madison, Rick Schulte of Milwaukee, and Tim (and Theresa) Schulte of Iowa City. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Stephen and Margaret Hagen, both of St Louis. Terry is further survived by her sister Jean (and her husband Ken) Siegel of Mandan, ND, her sister-in-law Phyllis Walker of Bismarck, ND, her sister-in-law Patricia Schulte of Santa Barbara, CA, and her aunt Mavis Adams of Lake Forest, Illinois. Terry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Dean and Duane Walker; her sister-in-law Margery Walker, her brothers-in-law Karl and Joseph Schulte, her sister-in-law Patricia Schulte (of Francis Creek, WI), and her beloved infant child Jacob Seton Schulte.

There will be two Memorial Masses. The Missouri service will be held on April 27, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church, 2934 Marshall Avenue, Maplewood, MO 63143. Visitation at 10:00 AM with service to follow at 11:00 AM.

The Wisconsin service and burial will be held on May 25, 2021 at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 12700 W. Howard Avenue, New Berlin, WI 53151. Visitation at 10:00 AM with Mass to follow at 11:00 AM.

Terry will be interred with her husband at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Saint Francis, WI.
