Barbara Jean Grace
Barbara Jean Grace (Swope) passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, just one day after
celebrating her 81st birthday.
A proud graduate of Kirkwood High School, Barbara devoted her life to her community through
both her career and countless volunteer efforts. Among her many accomplishments, she was
especially proud to serve as a founding committee member of the Crestwood Recycling Center
in 1972, to be honored as Salesperson of the Year for Gannett Outdoor in 1990, and to dedicate
years of service to the Lambert USO, supporting military families with compassion and care.
Barbara’s life was enriched by the friendships she cherished — from her Kirkwood High
classmates to her fellow members of the Bonhomme Republican Women’s Club, and from her
church families at Crestwood Baptist and Arnold Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Jean Swope, her brother Karl Swope, and
her sister Beverly Stover. She leaves behind her daughter, Pamela Townsend (Jerry), her
beloved grandson Andrew Townsend, sister-in-law Karen Swope, nieces and nephews, and a
wide circle of treasured friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bethesda-Dilworth for the loving care they
provided over the past year and a half.
A private family memorial will be held to honor Barbara’s life and legacy.

Barb was a treasured friend and a lovely, gentle soul who will not be forgotten
