Barbara Singleton

2014-01-17 15.38.48-2Barbara Louise (Bond) Singleton, 62, of St. Louis, passed away on February 13, 2014, three years after being diagnosed with ALS. Barbara was born on July 13, 1951 in St. Louis to the late Thomas Wayne and the late Hilda Mary (Schwent) Bond. Survivors include her husband, Benjamin A. Singleton, of St. Louis, her son Michael B. (Megan) Finney, of St. Louis, stepchildren Nathan P. (Jill) Singleton of Webster Groves, and Megan Blaike Cuba (Marcus Armstrong) of St. Louis, brothers William W. (Carol) Bond and Christopher M. (Jennifer) Bond, both of St. Louis, and sisters Judith M. (Harry) Cheatham, Jane E. (Russell) Goff, Kathleen (Rob) Thomure, all of St. Louis, and Lisa A (Todd) Graham, of Nashville, TN, grandchildren Elise R. Cuba, Coen A. Cuba, Lucy K. Finney, Molly E. Finney and Maeve A. Armstrong, all of St. Louis. She is also survived by one aunt, Virginia (Schwent) Menkhus of Festus, MO, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Barbara was a 1969 graduate of St. Pius X High School in Festus, and retired in 2000 after 30 years at Southwestern Bell/SBC Yellow Pages as a national sales manager. She was an avid and excellent dancer, a wine/winery aficionado, had impeccable fashion and decorating taste and an unfiltered joy for life. She was a devoted wife, mother and step-mother, a treasured friend to so many, a favorite sister, cousin, niece and aunt, but she most treasured the title of world-class grandmother.

There will be an informal visitation/celebration of her life on Monday, February 17 at Chaminade College Prep, 425 S Lindbergh Blvd, St Louis, MO 63131, from 5 to 9 pm. There will be a mass on Tuesday, February 18, at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 3310 South Grand Boulevard, St. Louis, 63118, beginning at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the church basement.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Barbara’s honor to any of the following – ALS Association St. Louis Regional Chapter, 2258 Weldon Pkwy, St Louis, MO 63146; Muscular Dystrophy Association, 345 Marshall Ave., Suite 101A, St. Louis, MO 63119; BJC Hospice, 8300 Eager Rd, St Louis, MO 63144.

    Ben and Family:

    We just heard the news of Barb’s passing. We are truly and deeply sorry to hear about this. Although we have not seen you all in a long time we think of you both often. We are fortunate to have known such a great lady who had a zest for life and fun. We know she will be greatly missed by many. Please know Ben, that our deepest condolences go out to you and all of your family. Our hearts go out to you all.
