Bari Eugene Greenberg
Bari Eugene Greenberg born July 27, 1964 in Waco, TX to Samuel and Glenna (nee Kirby) Greenberg, asleep in Jesus on August 17, 2014 in Bridgeton, MO.
Beloved husband to Sandra (Lund) and father to Aidan Eugene, his first child, who will be born February 2015. Bari graduated from the Belton (MO) High School in 1982. He went on to continue his education at the University of Missouri, Rolla where he received his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Bari joined the Boy Scouts in 1975 and later became an Eagle Scout. He was a Sachem in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, the H.Roe Bartle Scout Reservation honor camping program. He was also a counselor there for seven years.
Bari was an engineer by trade but a Bard at heart. A John Denver fan, these songs became signature pieces for him at open mics and filk circles alike. He and his brother, David, enjoyed singing harmonies together growing up, and whenever the family got together, there was always music. Bari was also a member of the Boeing choir for a time. He’d been involved casually with filk for more than a decade but became more involved with St. Louis filking in May of 2009 when he held a House Filk in honor of his late wife, Kim. Those rotating house filks have now been held bi-monthly for more than 5 years.
In 2010, his friend Gary, asked him to help with filk programming, which brought him more into contact with his casual friend, Sandra. Together they collaborated on Archon’s first songbook, which is now an annual publication. During this time Sandra, (who goes by Cat), and Bari discovered a shared passion for song writing together. The friendship blossomed to love and the two married in March of 2012. Together they composed half of the St. Louis filk band The Unusual Suspects, with Cat’s daughter, Valerie Ritchie, and their friend Mark Ewbank. Bari and Cat’s studio produced the group’s debut CD Accidental Filk Band. The couple then produced a duet album called Romancing the Filk which celebrated their love for each other.
Music was Bari’s first love and continued to be a source of joy for him throughout his life. He will live on through the songs he wrote and the joy he gave others. He will be deeply missed and never, ever forgotten.
Bari is preceded in death by his first wife Kim Marie Greenberg (nee Truax).
