Betty Jane King
After a long illness, Betty Jane King (née Fink) died on Jan. 23, 2014 in Creve Coeur, Missouri. She was 89. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Dr. Harold King, her sons Edward King and Dr. James King, their wives Beth and Tracey, six grandchildren, Kellina, Chelsea, Alyssa, Mackenzie, Madison, and Miles, and her great-grandson Robert.
Betty attended Indiana University and received a Masters degree in Social Work. She met Harold while working at the Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital. As a social worker, Betty helped many families and children in Indianapolis, where she and Harold lived for many years.
Betty was a strong supporter of local artists and the Indiana arts community. She was a leader of the docent program at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and was active in charitable organizations in Indianapolis. Betty helped establish the store at the Museum where work by emerging Indiana artists was showcased.
Betty loved to travel, and to play golf and tennis. She made her home and surroundings into places of love and beauty. Her sense of style and caring were appreciated by her family and friends alike. She will be missed.
A small memorial service for immediate family will be held in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Betty’s name be made to the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
