Captain William “Bill” Richard Mahoney

Captain William “Bill” Richard Mahoney, USMC Ret., 71, beloved husband and father, recently of Bloomington, IL passed away after an illness on March 21, 2018.

Born to Joseph and Mary Mahoney of Dedham, MA on September 27, 1946, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1964 and retired as a Captain. He enjoyed a second career as an Engineer for General Dynamics, first in Riverside, CA and then in Marion, IL.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cheryl Ann Mahoney; their children, Michael W. Mahoney of Bloomington, IL and Tobi S. Mahoney-Haskell (spouse William M. Haskell) of LaBarque Creek, MO; and four grandchildren, Shae E. Mahoney, Scott B. Haskell, Jordan N. Mahoney, and Megan A. Haskell. His parents, Joseph Mahoney and Mary Cote Mahoney, preceded him in death.

He enjoyed fixing just about everything and helping others. If something was broken, people just called Bill. His nickname was Mr. Fixit. He was considered a mentor and second father to many of his children’s friends.

A private visitation will occur Monday, March 26, 2018. A graveside service is planned at Jefferson Barracks Monday, April 23nd, 2018 @10:00 a.m.

    So very saddened by Bill’s passing. I thought highly of him and enjoyed working with him for all those years in Chino and Marion. I considered him a true friend.

    My deepest condolences to all of you. He was a great man and he also was funny like uncle Joe picking on me. We didnt see him much cause you all lived far away but when we did we picked up where we left off. Wish I got to know his kids more.
