Carl D. Mastis
Carl Daniel Mastis, 91, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
Born on February 14, 1935, in St. Louis, Carl lived a long and meaningful life defined by devotion to family, quiet strength, and a warm, generous spirit. He was the beloved son of the late Matthew and Antoinette Mastis and was preceded in death by his sisters, Emily and Ann, as well as his cherished wife of 45 years, Eileen, whom he loved deeply.
Carl will be lovingly remembered as a devoted father to Missy (Dave) Gleason and a proud and adoring “PaPa” to Ruby and Eliza, who brought him immense joy. He was also a cherished “CoCo” to Bella and Gracie, roles he embraced with love, humor, and pride. Carl was a beloved uncle to Bill (Nancy) LaGrotta, Rick (Eileen) LaGrotta, Gerry (Vicki) LaGrotta, Barb LaGrotta, Mike (Bonnie) Boemeke, and Jen (John) Novak. He was a great-uncle and dear friend to many, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love.
Carl notably carried lifelong pride in his alma maters — first as a Roosevelt Rough Rider, and then as a Mizzou Tiger. Before building his civilian life, he answered the call to serve his country as a United States Marine. He carried that discipline and sense of duty with him long after his service ended, and it shaped the man he would become.
He then went on to build a remarkable 35-year career as a beer bottler at Anheuser-Busch, where he showed up every day with the same steady commitment that defined everything he did.
In retirement, he found his greatest joy close to home — beside his beloved wife, Eileen, and surrounded by the nieces, nephews, and granddaughters who filled his later years with laughter and love. His days had a cherished rhythm: the morning newspaper spread across the table, sports on the television, and Hallmark movies in the evenings. Simple pleasures, lived fully.
His family wishes to extend heartfelt and special thanks to his nephew Rick, whose faithful Friday visits brought him so much happiness and companionship in his later years. Equal gratitude goes to his devoted caregiver, Lisa, who spent more than a year by his side with patience, warmth, and grace. Because of Lisa’s extraordinary care, he was able to remain in his own home until his very last days — a comfort and a gift that his family will never forget.
Carl will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep care for those around him, and the countless quiet ways he showed his love throughout his life. His family and friends will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
A service to honor and celebrate Carl’s life will be held on April 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Parish, 4725 Mattis Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Carl’s name to a charity of your choice, continuing his spirit of generosity and compassion.
