Carol Amir-Fazli

Carol Amir-Fazli (nee Hinners, nee Voelker), Fortified with the Sacrament of Holy Mother Church, peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2023.

Beloved wife of the late Richard Hinners, and subsequently, wife of the late Andy Amir-Fazli; reliant companion of Christopher Gude, step-mother of John Amir-Fazli, sister of Chris Voelker (Judy Koen), Steve Voelker (Doris), Mike Voelker, the late John S., Joan Rice (late, John) and Paul (survived by Jeannie): beloved aunt of Liz, Carrie, Kate, Christie, Jack, Matt, Mike, Violet, Oliver & Bunny; niece, aunt, great aunt, kindred friend to humanity and irrepressible/indomitable “sister” to treasured connections.

Born January 15, 1964, Carol graduated from Fontbonne University (BA, Theatre, 1987) and in 1990, married Richard Hinners, teaching with him in South Florida until his death in 2002. Moving back to St. Louis in 2004, she met and married Andy Amir-Fazli in 2010, opening an expansive scene in a singular script, entwining disparate characters, beliefs and vistas into a dynamic union, radiating luminance and equanimity to those within their intersecting orbits. Andy’s cancer battle and 2019 death left Carol devastated, but undeterred; she persevered through heartbreak and ever debilitating Myotonic Dystrophy, continuing to teach, dance and effervesce. “Forever young”, she left this earth with many unfulfilled dreams and aspirations; “forevermore”, she’ll be a spark of inspiration and will be reunited with departed loved ones. Carol’s last act of generosity was emblematic of her life’s work as teacher and social justice advocate: as an organ donor, she extended life to four organ-match recipients. Bravo Carol, take a bow; your last act was divine.
