It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lynette Carol Hayes, who passed away on June 5, 2026, at the age of 56.

Lynette was a devoted mother, educator, mentor, and friend whose life was defined by her unwavering compassion and commitment to helping children and families. She spent more than 30 years as an early childhood educator and center director, dedicating her career to nurturing young minds and creating safe, supportive environments where children could thrive.

Her passion for caring for others extended far beyond the classroom. As a foster parent, Lynette opened both her home and her heart to children in need, offering love, stability, and hope when it was needed most. She was also instrumental in expanding the Bright Space Program throughout the Chicagoland area, helping create comforting spaces for children experiencing crisis and trauma.

Lynette’s commitment to education was reflected not only in her career but also in her own academic achievements. She earned a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University Chicago, a milestone that exemplified her lifelong dedication to learning and to improving the lives of children. She was also deeply involved in her community, volunteering with the Grayslake Colts Youth Football Organization, serving as an active member of the Grayslake North Booster Club, and coaching youth basketball. Through these roles, she positively influenced countless children and families.

Above all, Lynette’s greatest pride was her family. She is lovingly survived by her brother, Dennis Hayes; her children, Robert “Austin” Thomsen and his fiancée, Michelle Isaacs, Bradain Thomsen, and Savannah Thomsen; along with many extended family members, dear friends, former students, colleagues, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sally Jo Hayes and William Hayes.

Lynette will be remembered for her selfless heart, her generous spirit, and her ability to make everyone she met feel seen, valued, and loved. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her family, her work, and her service to her community.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Emil’s Tavern in Grayslake, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories, celebrate Lynette’s remarkable life, and honor the love and kindness she gave so freely to others.
