Carol Jean Winborn

Carol Jean Winborn, 88, of Chesterfield, MO, passed away
peacefully on January 10, 2023, with her loving family by her side.

Carol was born on June 19, 1934, in St. Louis, MO to the late Frank and Othea
(Lauterwasser) Schodroski. She was the middle child of three, and graduated from
Notre Dame High School, in Lemay, MO.

An exceptional student of the natural sciences, Carol built a successful multi-decade
career as a Laboratory Technician at the Clinic of Internal Medicine in St. Louis then
Brentwood, MO. Beyond her technical role, she served as mentor, instructor, and
counselor to countless young ladies beginning their careers.

In retirement, she relished nurturing her precious grandchildren and enjoyed traveling
the world with friends and family to warm weather waterfront locations and collecting
seashells. Carol also had a fondness for closer to home trips to the Botanical Garden,
Grant’s Farm, Our Lady of the Snows, fireworks on July 4 th , and the St. Louis Zoo.

In addition to time with family and friends, Carol was a voracious reader, dog lover, a
world class Yahtzee player, a green thumb gardener and always looked forward to her
weekly breakfast and annual New Year’s Eve gatherings with lifelong special friends.

Family and faith were always at the center of her heart and soul. Carol was a champion
of education and lifelong learning and ensured her children and grandchildren were well
prepared to live productive and meaningful lives. She will be fondly remembered for
exuding gentle kindness and compassion, being a patient listener, and giving
generously to those in need.

As a lifelong devout Catholic, Carol enjoyed celebrating Holy Mass. She also served her
parishes as: Sacristan, Lector, and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.

Carol was the beloved mother of Renee’ (Rick Meyer) Winborn, Lisa (Cliff) Godiner, and
Steve (Kathleen) Winborn. She was the dear grandmother (“Gran”) of Megan (Dom)
Gregg, Emily (Sam) DelColle, Zachary and Alex Godiner, and loving cousin and aunt of
many.

She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia (Bill) Noeth, brother Russell (Dianne)
Schodroski, and former husband Elbert Winborn.

Carol’s loving and selfless spirit will continue to touch lives. It was her request that
when she passed her body be donated to St. Louis University for the advancement of
science.

A memorial Mass will be held at Incarnate Word Catholic Church in
Chesterfield, MO, on February 18, at 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org)
or the Missouri Botanical Garden (secure.missouribotanicalgarden.org /donate/i/tribute).
