Catherine Leona Steiner
Catherine Leona Steiner, age 86, passed away at de Greeff Hospice House surrounded by her family on September 2, 2018. She was born on August 24th, 1932. She was the daughter of the late William E. and Mayme Hanneken. Cathy was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Gunther F. Steiner; her brothers, Bill and Leonard Hanneken, her sisters, Dorothy Lucash and Mary Ann “Patsy” Jarosik, and numerous brother- and sister-in-law’s.
She is survived by her son, Steven (Marta) Steiner; her daughters, Pamela (Charles) Newton and Mary Kay (Howard) Hampton; her grandsons, Evan (Tabitha) Steiner, Kyle and Mark Hampton; her step-granddaughter, Charlotte Newton Everingham; her great-grandson, Theodore Steiner; her step-great-grandson, Aidan Roth; her brother-in laws, Kenneth (Neide) Steiner and Eric Steiner; her sister-in-law’s, Nancy Malawey, Patricia Hanneken and Sally Steiner. She also had many nieces and nephews that she loved very much.
Cathy worked as a secretary for Anheuser Busch in St. Louis for many years until her retirement in 1993. She was very proud to be able to send all three of her children to college despite being a single parent. Cathy had a passion for cooking and found enjoyment in sharing those meals with her family. She also had a love of dancing and enjoyed listening to music. Although life was not always easy for her, Cathy always made the best of any situation. She was a strong woman who was also exceptionally kind, compassionate, and helpful. She had an infectious laugh and her presence was enjoyed by all. She was a ray of light in many peoples lives, and will be sorely missed.
According to Cathy’s wishes, her body will be cremated and laid to rest alongside her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to St. Anthony’s Hospice/de Greeff Hospice House.
A Celebration of Life reception is planned for Thursday, September 27th, 2018 at Andre’s Banquet & Catering at 4254 Telegraph Road, St. Louis, MO 63129 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
