Charles “Bud” Gordon

Charles “Bud” Gordon Jr. of Hillsboro, MO passed peacefully from this earth on Monday January 1, 2018 with his daughters Phyllis and Lynn by his side. He was preceded into the hereafter by his wife of 65 years, Charlotte A. Gordon (Christian) and his first son Dennis Gordon. Born on January 4, 1929 to parents Charles Austin Gordon, and Gertrude (Degonia), he was 88 years old. His sisters Lyone and Elsie also preceded him in death.

Bud was a proud father of four children (Dennis Gordon, Charles Thomas Gordon, Phyllis Brinley, Dianna Lynn Faulkenberry), grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 14. He retired from Winter Brothers Material Company of Fenton, MO after 45 years of loyal dedication. Prior to his long career, he served our nation in the US Army during the Korean War.

Bud was an excellent welder, fabricator, and builder. He had remarkable mechanical aptitude. He could build or fix just about anything and was always ready to help a friend in need. He designed and constructed a wide range of apparatus over his lifetime including dragline dredges, gravel barges and gravel plants. He built his families first home, once constructed a dam to form a small lake and built many cars and motorcycles to licensed operation from spare parts. He was sought after and consulted after retirement for his knowledge and expertise and once traveled to Panama to consult on the construction of a significant material processing plant.

Bud spent much of his leisure time with friends and family playing harmonica, guitar and fishing. He was an avid fisherman and firmly believed that God did not subtract from men’s lives, the hours spent fishing. Bud held Missouri Master Angler records for a 2 lbs. 1 oz. 15.25-inch Black Crappie and a 8.7 lbs., 24 inch Large Mouth Bass.

Joint services for Bud and his son Charles Thomas (who tragically died just 12 hours after Bud) will be held on Friday January 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Louis Crematory followed by procession to the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks where he will be interned along with the ashes of his wife Charlotte at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
