Charles “Charlie” Butler
Charlie Butler, 74, passed away on March 6, 2021, at home in St. Charles, MO, after a nearly 11-month fight against pancreatic cancer. He was born in Providence, RI, to Charles F. Butler and Mary Elizabeth (nee Adams) Butler.
He and his sister, Joan, were the first children to integrate Francis Scott Key Elementary School in Washington, DC, in 1954 after the US Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of Education. He graduated from Western High School, Washington, DC, in 1964 and attended American University in DC from 1965 to 1970.
Charlie met Sue Temby at Ivanhoe Congregational Church in Mundelein in 1981. They married there in June of 1982. Charlie served on different boards for Ivanhoe during the many years he and Sue were members throughout their 38-year marriage.
Some of his employers included Southern Railway, Borden, IMC Fertilizer and CSX Transportation. He and Sue sold Real Estate together for 15 years after his corporate days were complete. Charlie served on the Village of Mundelein (IL) Planning Commission for a number of years, beginning in 2009, and worked with the PADS Lake County (IL) homeless shelter program for many years.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Sue; sons, Adam (Samantha), Anthony (Nadia), and Christopher (Vanessa); grandsons, Aiden Butler, Abbott Butler, Jovanni Butler; granddaughters, Naomi Butler, Daniella Butler & Dianalyn Butler; and one great-grandson, Axel. His sister, Joan (Wil) Holloway, also survives him.
Charlie loved reading, working on his model train set, coaching his sons in football and baseball, photography, spending time with his grandsons, and traveling.
