St. Louis – Charles H. Carter, 94, departed this life at 2:05 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Bethesda Dilworth in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a resident of Marion, Illinois until 2002.
Charles was born December 15, 1921 in Freeburg, Illinois to Harry and Lena Carter. He graduated from Freeburg High School in 1939. He married Adele I. Mudd of Freeburg, Illinois in 1946 in a double wedding with her sister Rita Mudd and Norbert Wenzel. Charles and Adele shared 64 years together until her passing in 2011.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa in the United States Army.
Survivors include their children, Carla Brown (Gary) of Marion, Mary Kay Armour (Tom Callahan) of Crofton, Maryland, Patricia Roush of St. Louis, Kathleen Phipps (Anthony) of St. Louis, Jane Brand (Bill) of Denver, Colorado and Charles A. Carter (Anne) of Huntsville, Alabama.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stacey Parks (Doug), Christopher Brown, Ethan Roush (Lindsay), Emily Phillips (Kyle), William Brand, Kathryn Brand, Libby Phipps, Meredith Carter and Danny Carter, along with great-grandchildren, Madison and Jordan Parks, Eva Roush and Makenna Phillips.
A private memorial service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. He will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
