Charles Robert Payne

Payne, Charles Robert, passed away peacefully at Mari de Villa on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at the age of 93. He is survived by Bonnie Payne, wife of 71 years; loving father of the late Britton (Karin), Scott (Karen), Matthew (Kathy) and Trent (Lisa); adoring grandfather of Riley (Chelsea), Jason (Faira), Elliott, Tara (Richard), Holly, Ethan, Alex, Ryan, Brian (Niki) and Greg (Christina); cherished great-grandfather of Harper, Davis, Faye, Xavier, Liam and June; dear brother of the late James (Stella), Patricia, and Ronald (Sandra), uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.

Bob was born and raised in East St. Louis, Ill. He graduated from the University of Arkansas where he met the love of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as First Lieutenant, receiving several commendations. Bob went on to a fulfilling career with Ralston Purina Company where he worked for 30 years in sales and marketing. Bob and Bonnie enjoyed many Ralston friendships that lasted throughout their lifetime. Bob cherished his West County Assembly of God church family where he worshiped faithfully and served as deacon for many years. Both he and Bonnie were active in Teen Challenge. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with family. He was a kind and generous man, selfless in giving to others, always encouraging others to be their best selves.

Service will be at West County Assembly of God Church, 13431 North Outer 40 Road,
Chesterfield, MO 63017, on Friday, June 3, at 9:00 a.m. Interment at Jefferson Barracks
National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mari de Villa for the love and care given to their dad.

    Bob touched my life in many ways during my Purina career and will always remember what a gentleman Bob was and what a great couple he and Bonnie were.

    Bob was usually the MC for many GSAB’s back in the 60’s & 80’s. Provided inspirational messages to take back & be recharged for the next year. May God welcome him with open arms!

    Bob was a gentleman that earned the respect of others with whom he interacted. I always admired and looked up to Bob because of the respect & professionalism he exhibited towards me.
    My life has been enhanced because of Bob.

    Bob was Mr. Purina and always spoke and inspired people at meetings and training schools. A Great Checkerboard Man!
