C. Scott Letcher was born to Isabelle Scott Letcher and Charles Wesley Letcher in Wilkes-Barre, PA in Letcher was born to Isabelle Scott Letcher and Charles Wesley Letcher in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1934. He died, with Martha at his side, on July 20, 2023.  

Scott lived in Chicago with his parents and three brothers before moving to Miami, OK where he graduated from Miami HS. He graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1955 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and took a  position with General Mills. It was at TU that he met Martha Bartlett and they married on Christmas Eve,1956.  Martha and Scott lived in New York City for a year before moving to Boston, MA where their four daughters were born. In 1964 the family moved to Hightstown, NJ when Scott joined Petrolite Corp., Bareco Div., where he worked  until his reƟrement in 1998. In 1971 the family moved to Tulsa, OK.  

In 1975, Scott realized a dream and started law school at TU. He graduated in 1979, passed the Oklahoma bar, and took on labor negotiations, federal registration, and patent submissions for Petrolite. He also had a private law  practice. Martha and Scott relocated to Frontenac, MO in 1987. They moved to Aberdeen Heights in Kirkwood in 2012.  

Scott was a true renaissance man with a deep love for his family, and they adored him. He enjoyed the company of  good dogs throughout his life. Scott’s faith was an important part of his life and he held leadership positions in the  church. He loved to read, especially biographies and the New York Times. He was an accomplished photographer  and participated in local politics. He enjoyed classical music and opera and the girls grew up listening to the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts and Dvorak’s New World Symphony at dinner on Sunday afternoons. Scott was an excellent carpenter and oversaw many home renovations and the construction of commercial buildings. He always had a to-do list for the weekend and his girls clamored to join him for each trip to the hardware store.  

Scott loved to entertain and he was the consummate host. He and Martha hosted an annual Christmas Open House for 52 years and he was famous for his Christmas punch. He loved espresso, vanilla milkshakes, and French fries.  Scott loved to cook and he was very good at it, especially French cooking. His copy of Julia Child’s cookbook was well used and he made a kick-ass hollandaise sauce. He turned an old oil barrel into a bar-b-que grill and many a pork butt was cooked. Scott and Martha enjoyed traveling and he would document their many trips with photos of  amazing food. They traveled alone, with family, and with friends. For their 50th wedding anniversary they took the children and grandchildren to their favorite village in Switzerland.  

Scott is survived by his wife Martha Bartlett Letcher; their children, Jean Letcher and her husband, Rodney Jenkins, Rachel Letcher and her husband, Barry Lorberbaum, Peggy Letcher Reppe and her husband, Rod, and Sarah Letcher Frank and her husband, Kermit; grandchildren, Allison Reppe and her husband, Chris Sequeira, Caroline Reppe, Mark Reppe, August Frank and Scott Frank; and great grandson Aiden.  

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 5 at 11:00am at Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church in  St. Louis, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of C. S. Letcher can be made to:
