Charley Franklin Key Jr
It is with great sadness that the family of Charley Franklin Key Jr announces his passing on September 13, 2026 at the age of 66 in St. Louis, MO.
He was born on July 10, 1960, in St .Louis, MO to Charley Franklin Key Sr. and Anna Lee Key nee Myers.
He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, a dedicated and hardworking Postal Worker with over 34 years of service, a coach, mentor, and a friend to all. He was also the front man for the legendary Local Rejects.
He is survived by children Maggie (Matt), Mike, Matt (Taylor), and Mia. He is also the dear grandfather of Hudson, Graeme, Rose, and Calvin. Dear brother of Georgia (Richard) and Jane. Loving uncle, cousin, and friend.
A visitation and memorial will be held at St. Louis Cremation 320 Jungermann Rd. St. Peters, MO 63376 on September 26th, from 11-3.
A Celebration of Life will be held at VFW Post 3944, 10815 Midland Blvd St. Louis, MO 63114 on September 27th at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the VFW or the Melanoma Research Foundation.

My condolences to his family. I remember the first time I met Charlie was when he bid over to the Overland PO. From North County PO. I showed him an empty locker that he could use. He thanked me and we became friends. One thing about Charlie, you never had to guess where you stood with him. He was honest, straightforward, and didn’t take any BS. We lost a great man. R.I.P. my friend.

You rocked out until the very end! We didn’t expect anything less from you. We loved your friendship … always checking on your friends when they were ill or going through a tough time. You wore your heart on your sleeve regarding your love for your children and grandchildren. We never met a more devoted father and grandpa. It was a joy to watch you beam with pride when you thought or spoke about them! You were one of the best at the USPS, I know many will try to live up to your exemplary service. Each day you brightened people’s lives when you delivered their mail. You took the time to get to know your customers and many relied on your daily chat to keep their own lives moving forward. We are heartbroken with your passing and will miss you terribly.
Oh, Charley, this is gonna hurt for awhile. I fully expected to continue our karaoke sessions long after your retirement. You were a true friend who loved his family like no other. You will be so missed by all who really knew you. Go get your wings…
Oh Charley !! I’m so sorry to hear this. My condolences to Maggie , Mike , Matt & Mia . He talked endlessly about his kids and grandkids. I retired from Gaffney in 2021 , he always said he will have the biggest retirement party ever . I hope he’s singing and riding a motorcycle . ❤️🙏

RIP Charlie Key. My very best to the enitire family & many friends that you had. You had my back on alot of things. I’ll cherish memories of us going to union & shop steward meetings at the hall & giving them hell. We went to opening day Cardinals this season & he was like a rockstar. I was really blown away by all the people we ran into that he knew from ⚾ & coaching & mentoring in the crowd that day. Channel 5 interviewed him on live tv that day & the Cardinals rallied for the win. Later bud. 💥📦📬🏍 ⚾💥

Charlie was such an excellent mailman, he took time to chat, he was great to talk to , and would even bring your mail to the door on occasion when you couldn’t get to the mailbox.
He went above and beyond, he will be truly missed

First of all to the family I am so sorry for your loss of this great loving and kind man.
This guy, this guy has been one of the most genuine and kindest people I have met in my 32 years of living in Missouri. I felt so blessed to call him my friend, a dear friend. The way he always gave the kids candy on his route and talk to everyone to make them feel loved and recognized from all walks of life with surely a gift. Anybody who knows Charley understood he wore his heart on his sleeve, but was about as honest as they come. He was loyal to the end to his community and to his friends and family. I don’t know how many times over the years I’ve heard him say to me I got you when I went through years of surgeries and he had to bring my mail to the door or a package for me. I am so truly grateful that he was born in my lifetime. I know he’s with our Lord now as we discussed these things many times. I am grateful he was my brother of another mother. Looking forward to the day we can meet again and sing together. Fly high, my friend and I pray that you watch over all of us like you always have. A big thank you rest well earth angel . 😎🙏😇 💜

I dated Charlie briefly he was just a fun-loving great guy. I am so sorry for your loss Georgia and all of your family I know you guys were so close. I first met Charley many years ago at N County PO when got in trouble and needed a steward. He got through it and continued his career at Gaffney PO where he eventually became a steward himself. He loved his family, music, coworkers, and his customers on his mail route. RIP buddy!
