Charlotte Letishia Spates
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte Letishia Spates, born August 4, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri. Affectionately known as Ms. Charlotte, she was the first daughter of George Featherson and Deloris Bess and one of nine siblings. Both of her parents, who shaped her early life, have preceded her in death.
Charlotte faced adversity with extraordinary resilience, constantly forging ahead through hardship. Those who knew her will remember her quick wit, vibrant sense of humor, and her candid, unforgettable personality. She leaves a lasting legacy through her two children, Jonathan Lopez, who resides in Minneapolis with his fiancée, Kristi Belkholm, and Marguerite Spates of St. Louis. Charlotte was a devoted grandmother to Justina and Johanna (“Jojo”) of Minneapolis and welcomed Kristi’s children, Chloe and Chase, into her extended circle of love.
Throughout her life, Charlotte quietly shouldered significant challenges, and the hardships she endured profoundly influenced her journey as a mother and an individual. Yet she was never defined by hardship alone. Charlotte’s story is one of perseverance, a woman who did her best with the circumstances she faced. To her children: know that she loved you, even when love took a form you might not have expected. Her love and strength will be remembered always.
Charlotte’s family and all who cared for her now wish her the peace that eluded her in life. May she rest in peace.
Ms. Charlotte’s Home Going service will be held at City Hope Bible Church, 5868 W Florissant Ave, St. Louis, MO 63120
