Christopher “Kyle” Burnett passed away on December 21, 2019 after a long battle with addiction. He was born in St. Louis, MO on April 28, 1986 and was the son of Christopher Penrose and Shelly Volz-Hazel and the adoptive son of Dan and Jean Burnett. He was a brother to Krishel Penrose, Kendra Penrose, Judy Colson, Sean Penrose, Jamie McDonald, Danny Burnett and Aaron Burnett. Most of all, Kyle was the proud father of Gavin Riley Burnett, who he is pictured with in the featured photo, and who’s loving mother is Nicole Burnett.

Those fortunate to be close to Kyle knew him for his intelligence, humor, creativity and well-timed sarcasm. He had a vast interest in all forms of technology, greatly enjoyed comic books, was always thrilled with superhero and science-fiction movies, loved gaming and was a huge St. Louis Blues hockey fan. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. Kyle will be remembered for the characteristics of his personality, his monumental efforts to overcome the disease that is addiction and, above all, the tremendous pride he had in being Gavin’s father.

A memorial service for family and friends to celebrate Kyle’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Ferguson, 401 Darst Rd., Ferguson, MO 63135.

I am so sorry to just now hear of Kyle’s passing. Our family lived next door to the Burnett’s home for many of Kyle’s childhood years. Our son was only a few weeks older than Kyle. They played together all the time. If Kyle wasn’t playing in our yard, our son was playing in their yard. The Burnett’s were one of the nicest families in the neighborhood and welcomed and adopted Kyle with loving and open arms. What a joy it was to see the boys playing together almost every day. When we moved from Ferguson in 1998, the boys were about 12 yrs old and it was certainly sad and difficult to leave Kyle and the Burnett family. Kyle mainly grew up as a fun loving kid. We always enjoyed his smile and he was like family to us. From the picture above, his son Gavin, looks just like Kyle did at that age. What a remarkable resemblance. Our family will always have fond memories of Kyle Burnett and will be remembered in our prayers.
