Clarence Lewis

November 30, 1954 – August 24, 2026

Clarence James Lewis, Jr. was born in Beppu, Japan and, after serving in the US Navy as a
young man, made his home in St. Louis, Missouri, where he lived until his passing at the age of
71. It was there that he met his beloved wife, JoAnn, and built a life grounded in faith, family,
and community.

A gentle and open-hearted man, Clarence placed his trust in Jesus in all things. His faith was a
steady foundation throughout his life, guiding him in how he cared for others and approached
the world around him.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Clarence found deep purpose in helping people navigate
the difficulties and challenges that weighed on their lives. He cared about people and wanted to
help them find their way through even the most debilitating circumstances. That compassion
extended well beyond his professional life; he made a point of checking in on others and praying
for them, continuing to offer care and encouragement even when experiencing great hardship
himself.

Clarence believed in investing in his community and took a genuine interest in the people who
made it what it was. He loved striking up conversations and getting to know those around him.
He seemed to have friends everywhere, finding connection in the most ordinary encounters.
He appreciated life’s simple pleasures: good music, good food, and time spent enjoying the
natural world. He especially loved watching and feeding the birds that flocked to his yard. Above
all, he cherished time with his family.

Clarence is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his sons, Paul and his wife, Danielle, and Erik and his
wife, Catherine; his stepson, Jeff, and his wife, Sarah; and his beloved grandchildren. He will
also be remembered by extended family, dear friends, and the many members of his community
whose lives he touched.

Clarence leaves behind a legacy of faith and connection. He will be remembered for his
generosity of spirit and his appreciation for the everyday moments that make life meaningful.
His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17 at 9:00 AM at South City Church, 2109 S Spring
Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110. A service celebrating Clarence’s life will take place directly afterward at
10:00 AM.
