Dale Clemons
August 11, 2025
Dale passed away on August 11th, Just a few weeks shy of his 88th birthday and a few months from celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary.
He was born in Oklahoma September 2,1937. He knew at a very young age that he wanted to be an Engineer and in order to achieve that he would need a college degree. He knew that he would have to pay for his degree on his own so he worked in oil fields, at the University switchboard and a variety of odd jobs, even selling Mistletoe during the Holidays.
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Chemical Engineering he landed his first job with Phillips 66 in the Texas panhandle. He soon moved his young family, daughter Sheron and soon-to-be son, Russel to St. Louis for a job with Monsanto where he would work the next 28 years. During his time with Monsanto, he helped design a new chemical plant in South Carolina and worked at the Krummich plant in Sauget, IL. He even obtained a patent for a product used in paper production.
In October 1975 he married Mary Poindexter Khanna and became the beloved Dad of Sheila and Paul.
He was always an avid reader even at a young age, encouraging his children to follow suit. Although they may not share his passion for “heavy” historical tomes they do share his passion for reading. They in turn have passed this on to their children and grandchildren.
HIs passion for knowledge led him to traveling and to experience not only history and culture but to enjoy the beauty of what nature has to offer. His travels took him to the Galapagos, Amazon. Andes, France, Canada, Aruba, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Everglades and many other National Parks and States throughout the US. For many years he and Mary rented a condo in Panama City for the month of October. They enjoyed having their kids and grandkids visit them. He took them on many fishing trips and always brought back plenty of red snapper and grouper for a nice family dinner. One year he rescued baby turtles that had hatched during the day rather than at night, gently picking them up and placing them in the ocean before the seagulls saw them.
He enjoyed spending time in his garden, reading on the back porch, listening to the cardinals, and watching the PBS news hour with Henry, (the dog), in his lap.
He will be missed by his wife Mary Clemons, daughter Sheron (Bob) Sears, son Russel Clemons, daughter Sheila Moore, and son Paul Clemons. His eight grandchildren Sean, Hilary, Molly, Natalee, Holly, Kim, Marcus, and Joey. Three great grandchildren Rory, Alex and Henry (the boy).
We will hold a Celebration of life open house on September 27 from 11 to 2 at the home of Sheron and Bob Sears , 308 Altus Place, Kirkwood, MO 63122. We hope you can join us to share some memories and celebrate Dale’s life.
