Darryl Truman Sklebar
Darryl Truman Sklebar, “Big D”, 72 passed away Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013 at Missouri Baptist Hospital. He suffered severe brain injuries from a fall at Garden View Care Center of Chesterfield. Darryl had been a resident at GVCC since October 2012.
Darryl was born in St. Louis, Mo on May 28, 1941 to Charles and Doris (Bohnert)Sklebar. He grew up in the Carondelet neighborhood and was a graduate of Cleveland High School. Darryl joined IBEW Local #1 on February 19, 1963 and just celebrated his 50 year membership. He worked for Sachs Electric and Guarantee Electric before he started his own company, D&S Electrical Contracting Consultants, Inc in 1981.
Darryl was survived by his daughter Diana Lynn Sklebar, brother Landon (Cindy) Sklebar, sister Darlene Belote and nephew Thomas Belote.
Darryl met the love of his life the summer of 1988 and after a long courtship he married Robin K Struble Sklebar on May 11, 1996.
Darryl loved life. He loved boating on the river in his Bayliner “High Voltage”, golfing and traveling to the Virgin Islands. He was a dog lover and at one time owned 3 Shih Tzu dogs. At 62 he retired and raised his new West Highland Puppy Cody, now age 10. He was a regular at Patrick’s at Westport Plaza for over 30 years and it was there that he made some of his life long friends.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Darryls family. Especially to my long time friend and classmate Robin, who was so very blessed to have had this wonderful man in her life. I did not get to meet Darryl but feel like I know him as she was always sharing wonderful stories. May God hold you all tight through these difficult times. ~ Libby

Our Prayers are with all of you. As libby said, it was like watching a great love story. (Darryl & Robin) The stories were always fantastic and the memories should be the same. Maybe We didn’t know him, but We felt like We did.
There are no words that can express our feelings. We are so very sorry and are thinking about you. We didnt know Darryl, but since we have been in contact we could always see how happy and in love you were. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers are with you and I truly hope someday we can see each other. We are family.
