David Johnson
David Johnson was born June 14, 1960, in St. Louis, Missouri to David Johnson Sr., who proceeded him in death and Rose Thomas.
David was raised in St. Louis, Missouri by Rose Thomas and Melvin Thomas. He attended school in the Ritenour School District from 1974 – 1976, and North County Technical School from 1976 – 1978 where he graduated with a degree in commercial art. He attended Florissant Valley College for two years and received an Associate degree in graphic commercial art. David was employed with Ralston Purina Company for several years as a commercial artist until he retired. He was one of the first African American commercial graphic artist employed there. He designed logos and boxes for “Meow Mix” and “Cookie Crisp” cereal. He was very talented in what he did. David believed in God and spiritual guidance and was a non-denominational believer.
David was given the nickname “Maceo” by his Aunt Lillie at a young age. He loved going to her house on weekends and summer breaks. David had a passion and hobby for art, music, and collected various types of antiques, vinyl, one of a kind collectible items, sports memorabilia, and movies. David established “Red Sanford Collectibles” in 1990, which has been in operation for 34 years, where he collected many antique items. He created collages and pencil sketchings of several celebrities such as Richard Pryer, John Belushi, Marilyn Monroe, Ronald Regan, and a few others. David loved going to various art events, espcially on the Delmar Loop. David Attended family reunions, loved karaoke, and loved his family. He was interested in his family roots and researched the Harry family history.
He leaves to cherish his memory:
two daughters, Jessica Rose Johnson and Jasmine Nicole Johnson; Mother- Rose V. Thomas; Stepfather- Melvin Thomas; Sisters- Rosemary Johnson and Monica Johnson; Brother- David A. Johnson; Three Grandchildren- Kaylin Addison, Titan Davis and Jazzlynn Johnson; A special sister/cousin- Venus (Jane) Harry; Nieces/nephews- Laverne Henderson, Alicia Gomez, Deidre (Keith) Brooks and Meaghan Dunlap; Two Great nephews, Three Great nieces, and a host of aunts, cousins, other family and friends.
Daddy I miss you, I wish I can hear your voice one more time…these 29 years I’ve shared with you were the best I’ll always cherish as your daughter. All the fun and happy memories! Us running on the track at the local park,my first time going to Six Flags..your the reason I love roller coasters!! I know you are looking down at me and want me to make you proud like I am and will continue of course. I love you so much daddy and as your baby girl I’ll continue this adventure of life for you and this isn’t goodbye this is just a see you later.Love Always your Pilgrim ❤️
