David Joseph Verstraete

David Joseph Verstraete, age 42, passed away unexpectedly while sleeping on September 9, 2020 from sudden cardiac arrest.

David loved and excelled at basketball. His passion was music, whether he was playing guitar or saxophone, or listening to his favorites, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and all the great guitar players.

David’s greatest joy in life was being a father. He was a devoted and proud dad. He dearly loved his family and friends. Everyone who knew David always spoke of his big heart. His lifelong generosity extended to not only friends, but also to strangers. In keeping with his giving nature, David is an organ donor, and he will now be helping many others in their time of need.

David is survived by his wife Sandi; children Zoey, Devin, and Ayden; parents Gary and Lyn Verstraete; sister Jennifer Riley (Matt); grandparents Alberta Verstraete, Darrell and Evie Wilson; parents-in-law Kim Graham and Jim Mullins; sisters-in-law Tabitha Brown, Kayce Kern (Nick); many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

David will be greatly missed, and we will all remember him with love. Private services will be held at a later time.

Gary, Lyn and Jenny this all still feels so unreal. I remember when Lyn called to tell me you were pregnant with him. And when you traveled from Texas to the Quad Cities and I got to meet him when he was only six weeks old.
My heart goes out to all of you. He was an amazing person. I love you.

I found a musical nature in David that was in nobody else. He was truely gifted. He will always be my best friend and most loved human I’ve ever known on Earth. He was my right hand man upon a musical journey that few could handle. He embraced my lunacy. I could write a book about our experiences. Nevertheless I send endless compassion and love towards your loved ones David, know they will always have me at your will if I can be at service and help within my brothers absence. All of my love to you David via JC. I love you good bye and Amen
