David Lynn Blodgett, 71, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on March 11, 1955, Dave dedicated his life to serving others as a teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. Throughout his career, he taught in the St. Louis Public School District, where he made a lasting impact on generations of students. He believed in the potential of every child and possessed a rare gift for encouraging others to become the very best version of themselves.
Beyond the classroom, Dave spent many years coaching football at Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School, where he was respected not only for his knowledge of the game, but for the character, discipline, and confidence he instilled in the young men he coached. Whether in the classroom or on the football field, Dave’s greatest victories came through the lives he helped shape.
Dave was truly a kid at heart. He loved being around children and found joy in teaching, coaching, playing games, and making people laugh. His enthusiasm for sports was contagious, and he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer from the sidelines or talk about the game. A lifelong fan of Michigan sports, Dave proudly followed his favorite teams through every season and was always ready to celebrate a victory or debate the latest game.
Above all, Dave cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Blodgett; his daughter, Aimee (Walid Ben Mansour); his stepson, Matt Kramer (Maria Kramer); his treasured grandchildren, Charles, Grace, Victoria, David, and Henri; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dan and Diane; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Bryan, Kelly, Andrew, Allison, and Trisha. Being a grandfather was one of the greatest joys of his life. He delighted in watching his grandchildren learn, grow, compete, and discover the world, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Dave will be remembered for his kindness, patience, quick smile, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to helping others. His legacy lives on in the countless students he taught, the athletes he coached, the family he loved so deeply, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.
Though he will be deeply missed, Dave’s lessons, laughter, compassion, and love will remain with all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Richard Catholic Church, 11223 Schuetz Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63146. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Dave’s memory.
Grandpa Dave was one-of-a-kind. He was a wonderful man who made you feel like family from the moment he meets you.

Dave Blodgett undoubtedly left this earth knowing he was loved. The measure of the impact he made on the lives of his students, athletes and family is ongoing. A life well-lived breathes on in the lives of others. God speed, Dave, and God bless those left behind.
David was a wonderful friend with a beautiful personality. I always looked forward to seeing him during our get together.
We laughed and tried to solve the world’s problems.
I know for sure he loved being grandpa. They had a perfect role model.

I only knew Dave only a short while at St. Ann’s. He was a great influence on the students and the staff. He started each class with enthusiasm and made sure there was learning going on. I feel privileged to call him a friend.

It was my privilege to first meet Dave when we served together as teachers at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School. A few years later, our paths crossed again when he joined me as Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Coach at Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School. Together, we helped establish the school’s now highly successful football program, and through hard work, commitment, and shared purpose, we experienced the joy of winning several conference championships and a district title.
Later, we reconnected in the Normandy School District, where Dave served as a curriculum coordinator and I served as the high school athletic director. In that work, we partnered to plan, develop, organize, and implement activities and projects that served students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Dave brought dedication, vision, and compassion to everything he did, always seeking ways to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.
Dave had a remarkable memory and a gift for storytelling. Je could take you back down memory lane as though the moment had happened only yesterday, recalling every detail with clarity, joy, excitement, and humor. Every encounter with Dave left you better than before; it was nearly impossible to walk away from him without a smile.
He did not view life’s challenges as obstacles; he saw them as opportunities to improve a situation and uplift those around him. Dave was fully committed to helping others live better lives, and his service reflected a heart devoted to people, community, and purpose.
Dave was a great man with a great spirit and a deep love for his fellow man. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he carried himself with kindness, humility, and genuine warmth. He never met a person he did not like, and he had a way of making everyone feel valued.
Dave will truly be missed, but his legacy will live on forever in the many lives he touched. I am grateful that God allowed me the honor of calling him my friend.
We are one lucky family who knew Uncle Dave and all the kindness he brought to this world. He would greet you with a smile, would shower you with positivity, and give you a hug when you leave to go home . Truly a beautiful person that will be missed. We love you Uncle Dave.
