Diane Marie Garber

Diane Garber, beloved wife, mother, and sister died peacefully on September 2nd at Cedarhurst of St. Charles. She was born in Cincinnati, OH, on July 14, 1949, to Mel and Mary Ellen Gunkel. She married Milton Garber of Enid, OK on May 29, 1971. Together they raised one daughter, Sarah Garber, in Fulton, MO, and later Jefferson City, MO. Diane graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law and was elected as the Callaway County prosecutor in 1980. After serving as Callaway County’s prosecutor, she spent the rest of her career working as the senior receivership counsel for the Missouri Department of Insurance.

Diane treasured time spent with her husband and daughter, her parents and four sisters, and behind the lens of a camera. More often the taker of photos than the subject of them, Diane was a self-taught nature photographer in her spare time. She often could be found taking photos of the beautiful flowers she grew around the yard or her beloved cocker spaniel, Maddie, and decorating the house with prints of her work. Among her myriad other hobbies were tracing her genealogy back over 100 generations and sewing elaborate Halloween costumes by hand, the most iconic of which was her Maleficent costume for which she also fashioned a large black raven to perch on her shoulder. Diane also loved traveling with her family, whether it was to countries like Turkey, Russia, India, and Afghanistan, or just the two weeks spent every summer at the Garber family cabins on Lake Le Homme Dieu in Alexandria, MN.

In lieu of a memorial, the family has organized a team for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 23, 2021, in St. Louis, Missouri. Join the team or make a donation in Diane’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association here: https://bit.ly/3DMUsAV

Diane is survived by her husband of 50 years, Milton Garber, daughter, Sarah Garber, and four sisters, Karen Anderson, Linda Krumpleman, Tina Weber, and Julie Eten.
