Diane Marie Shayne (nee Droesch)
It is with deep love and gentle sorrow that we mourn the passing of our beautiful mother Diane
Marie Shayne (nee Droesch) of Florissant, MO who left this world peacefully on the morning
of Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Bethesda Dilworth in Kirkwood, MO, just one day after
celebrating her 88 th birthday.
Diane was born on December 9, 1937, in Saint Louis, MO the first- born daughter of the late
Deacon Francis “Bud” Droesch and Alice Droesch graduating from Laboure High School and St.
Louis Community College – Florissant Valley.
Her talents were quite varied – while she raised her children, she worked out of her home as a
seamstress – performing alterations and making clothes for others and for her family. Later after
her divorce, she became a sought-after secretary, known for her exceptional typing,
organizational skills and attention to detail in both the early childhood education and higher
education sectors.
After retirement, she spent her time volunteering for the City of Florissant Senior Office
planning day-trips, themed dances and other senior specific events. In addition, she enjoyed
motorcoach tours all over the country with her daughter- some of her favorites were Nashville,
Savannah and Mackinac Island. An avid animal lover, Diane cared for many furry friends
throughout her life – especially her kitties Daisy Mae and Dolly Sue.
Diane was a woman of many passions. She spent countless hours outside in her yard tending to
her collection of lovely plants and flowers. She was also an exceptional cook – her legendary
lasagna, chicken and dumplings and mashed potatoes were just a few of her requested dishes. In
her later years, she was an award-winning candle maker, traveling all over selling her designs
and sharing her techniques.
A loyal servant of God – she was a long-time member and Eucharistic Minister of North
American Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, Florissant and following its closure in 2005 – Sacred
Heart Church of Florissant until she moved to the Bethesda Terrace Senior Community in
Oakville, MO in 2019.
Diane is survived by her sons David and Daniel and her daughter Deborah; her grandchildren
Jeremiah Rolwing (Kimberly), Jessie Rolwing – Cole (Larry), Pandora Grant – Rolwing; her
great -grandchildren Chase, Olivia, Dalton, Mariah-Lynn and Elijah; her great-great grandchild
Ryder; her brother Kevin Droesch (Nancy) along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband Russell Rolwing, her second husband Larry
Shayne, her brother Jack Droesch (Jude survives), her sister Nancy Ortwerth and her brother- in-
law Steven Ortwerth.
Diane’s legacy lives on in the children she raised, the lives she touched, and the values she
embodied.
Though Alzheimer’s touched her final years, it never dimmed the warmth of her vibrant spirit or
the love she shared with those around her. Her laugh continued to be infectious, and her smile
would light up any room. She found joy in being driven around Lone Elk Park, watching
Hallmark Movie Channel and eating strawberry ice cream from Oberweis.
The family will have a private gathering after cremation and in the Spring plan to hold a
celebration of her life where friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and honor
her remarkable journey.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Bethesda Hospice Team and all the NODA
volunteers for their outpouring of compassion and loving care.
Memorials can be made in Diane’s honor to the Humane Society of Missouri, the Salvation
Army or the Alzheimer’s Association.
