“Dick” Richard Greene

Richard Edward Greene, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church May 18, 2014, born October 4, 1926. Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Greene (nee Buhr); his children Terri (Michael) Hennessey, Richard (Therese) Greene, Anne (Stewart) Moreland, Lucy (Scott) Volding, Martha (Michael) Gallagher, Patrick (Teresa Arriaga) Greene, and Jimmy (Tiffany Halliday) Greene; loving grandfather to Margaux (Roth), Elizabeth & Ricky Hennessey, Adam, Evan, Caitie & Daniel Greene, Marcy (Krems), Peter, Christie & Matt Moreland, Andy & Leigh Volding, Jack, Abby, Tommy & Lucy Gallagher and Aiyana & Coleman Greene; great-grandfather of George & James Roth, Norah &Jack Moreland, Henry Krems and Rose Moreland. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth and father Nelson Greene, brothers Nelson, Winston and David Greene and grandson Richie Greene III.

Dick was larger than life and a wonderful storyteller, never letting the facts get in the way of a good tale. He was an avid reader. He also loved to sing, especially late at night. A good friend, Fr. Jim Gleason summed up Dick pretty well by saying “In subtle ways you have influenced me by your generosity, your unselfishness, your extreme effort to hide your basic goodness which still somehow eluded your clever method of concealment.”

Dick was a talented student athlete in both high school and college, a proud member of the St Louis University High school class of 1945. He then attended St. Louis University & graduated from Quincy College. Dick served in the US Army in Germany for two years after college. He opened the Richard Greene Company, a distributor of industrial controls, in 1958, and it is now in its 56th year.

In accordance with his wishes, Dick donated his body to science. A memorial mass will be held on Friday May 30th at St Clement of Rome Church at 10AM. The family will receive guests beginning at 9am in the church.

The Redemptorist Priests were very dear friends to our family and especially Dick. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Liguori Missions, 10 Liguori Drive, Liguori Missouri 63057, Attn. Father Vic Karls CSsR.

Father Jim Gleason nailed it – so true about Uncle Dick’s giving nature. He took care not only of family but countless others.
I will sorely miss him but he’ll always be with me.
Give your brothers hell in heaven Dinky Pink!

Uncle Dick walked my wife, Ruthie Greene down the isle when her father, Dave Greene, Dick’s brother, could not. He holds a very special place in our hearts. We will fly in from Los Angeles to attend all services. All our love to the family. Dan Reed and Mary Ruth Greene.
