Donald Holtzmann

Donald Raymond Holtzmann joined his Lord and Savior in Heaven on Easter Sunday morning, March 31, 2024, peacefully in his home at the age of 83. He was a St. Louis native, born to June and Raymond Holtzmann. Don graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in South St. Louis, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Midge Holtzmann (nee Lynam). They were married 62 years.

Don attended University of Missouri-Rolla, where he studied engineering. His zest for life led him to sales, where he was instrumental in the creation of the Rental Car division in the early years of the St. Louis-born company, Enterprise Leasing. For the past 20 years, he and Midge enjoyed traveling across the country in their motorhome, working for Southeast Publications. Along the way, he enjoyed going to movies, washing cars, attending the St. Louis Easter car show in Forest Park each year, visiting museums of all kinds, where he liked to read every placard, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. No one can doubt that Don loved talking to people!

He is survived by his true love, his wife, Midge, his brother and sister, 4 grown children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren and the first great-grandchild on the way in April, plus many beloved nieces and nephews. The family held an intimate service to celebrate his life and shared many, many stories about Don’s antics that had them crying and laughing. As such, there will be no formal memorial ceremony; however, the family would appreciate hearing any memories people would be willing to share. In lieu of flowers, for anyone who would like to pay their respects or honor his memory, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

I remember Don as a sweet and caring man, even though I only met him a year ago thru Midge (my walking buddy). He cared about his yard and street, patiently pulling out dandelions and picking up trash from the street. He loved his wife and family with great devition. He came to my birthday party last fall dressed as a hippy with a long wig (along with Midge) and was quite the hit (winning our couples prize). I Will Never forget that nor him! Angel blessings to Midge and the whole family. Your friend

I remember after high school him helping me drive to Orlando, Florida to move back with my mom and stepdad and siblings. I was a young driver, but I kept wanting to drive because every time Don would drive he would start falling asleep. I was terrified! Lol!

I remember Don as the fun adult who wore an umbrella hat on canoe float trips in Eminence, Mo with the adults and when all the kids floated, he was the guy on the bridge overhead who would be dumping coolers of ice water on us. What an amazing fun person who will be missed here on earth, but making our family members in heaven laugh. And to join our Lord on Easter Sunday is extra special. May God bless you all and comfort your hearts. Love you all

…will always remember “Don” as the gentleman who was consistently instant in prayer about everything. There was never a “dull moment” when he was in your presence. He could see the bright side of each would-be sad situation.
We met as Southeast Publications Business Associates in 2005, ever ready and willing to satisfy each client, with every fiber of His being.
To God Be All the Glory for his witness! See you in Gloryland my brother, my friend, God’s Peace…

What an Honor it was to know Mr. Don although we didn’t know him for a very long time as we just met him and Midge almost 3 years ago. We send our love and prayers especially to Midge and the entire family. Friends, Eliska and Bob Cole
