I met Don when he joined the VFW in Tracy. The first thing I noticed is that Don was full of fun…and loved to tell stories…he would volunteer and help with anything…he joined the Honor Guards …and the American Legion, just so he could help and be a part of things (as we shared a building)… He was the Chaplin for American Legion… Sargent of Arms for VFW, Honor Guards, etc…

Don was EXTREMELY proud of his children and always spoke of them…
I camped and sang karaoke and tipped many drinks with Don….as we met every Monday nite for burgers, beers, shuffleboard and great conversation, stories and jokes. Don was a very special person and I will miss him, along with everyone I know will miss you Don!! RIP my friend!!!!

    Sincerely your friend,
    Fred Hartman

I was the Commander of Tracy VFW and American Legion when Don joined. He was ready to to get involved right away. Whatever meting or activity we did Don was there to participate. Don had an upbeat personality did not let things get him down even though of his health problems. I did not have to ask Don to volunteer I always knew he would show up. Don really cared about his family and friends. It was easy to make him one of your friends. Don’s spirt and friendliness will not be forgotten. At times he was the life of the party and that is properly what he is doing now in heaven. We miss him and I know you do also.

RIP Comrade, thanks for your service to our Country.

I met Don here in Tracy as we both belonged to the VFW and American Legion Posts. We shared many stories and had our share of drinks and enjoyed the camaraderie that only Veterans can understand. We will miss Don but never forget the friendship he shared with myself and others here in California.
Don had an infectious smile and great heart. He was always the life of the party especially when we would get a few drinks down and start Karaoke-ing. We sang “My Girl” and of course he being a boy from St. Louis , “New York New York” go figure, somehow that song got thrown in the mix too!
Until we meet again my friend. Carry on Soldier….
