Donald Wood

Donald Wood, 81, of Hillview, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation in White Hall.
He was born December 16, 1930, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Howard and Hazel (Smith) Wood. He married Joan Armstrong on January 12, 1957, and she survives.
Also surviving are eight daughters, Darlene Nephew, of St. Louis, MO; Kathy (husband, Steve) Burton, of Fairview Heights; Debra (husband, Charles) Hamilton, of Belleville; Peggy Wood, of Belleville; Charlene (husband, Jim) Hoehn, of St. Charles, MO; Charlotte (husband, Chris) Proffitt, of Granite City; Mary Wood, of Wright City, MO; Annette (husband, Craig) Barnard of White Hall; and a son, Dwayne (wife, Sandra) Wood, of Bartonville. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and close family friend Daniel Wong.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and a son, Donald H. Wood.
He served his country in the U. S. Marines for 7 years and was deployed to the Korean War Conflict, where he was wounded in action. He worked as a machinist for the Crane Corporation in St. Louis, MO. Donald was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and family. He was a member of the Marine Corps Chosin Few.
Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary. Visitation was held from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Cremation Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Blessings Hospice and the Greene County Veterans Assistance Commission
