Doris Jean Dunlap

April 29, 1940 – May 5, 2024

Doris Jean Dunlap, 84, of St. Louis, Missouri, died at Cardinal Ritter, Mary, Queen and Mother Center, on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

She was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, in 1940 to James S. and Dorothy Rhae Martin (Tanner), who preceded her in death. She was the oldest of 5 siblings: Jerry Raymer, Jimmy Martin, Kenny Martin, and Sandi Parsons (Martin). She had a happy childhood in Owensboro surrounded by her grandparents, aunts & uncles, and multiple cousins. She moved to St. Louis and lived with her parents and siblings in Normandy, MO.

She got married in 1956 to William Worsham and had five children; she later married Elmer Orick and had a daughter, and after that divorce, she married Chester Dunlap and had three more children. She was married for almost 37 years to Chester Dunlap before he passed away in 2008 in Hamilton, MO.

Doris held a myriad of roles in different industries throughout her working career. Still, the common thread in all her endeavors was her strong work ethic, cheerful sense of humor, and pride in her large extended family and children.

One of Doris’s greatest joys was music and dancing; her favorite performer was Elvis Presley. She never strayed from her Kentucky roots and developed a deep love for country music at a young age. Even in her later years, the sound of Elvis, Tammy Wynette, Charley Pride, Alan Jackson, or Roy Orbison would elicit a beautiful response and recognition from her despite her advanced Alzheimer’s.

Before entering an assisted living center in her mid-70s, Doris was an active member of the Hamilton/Gallatin community in northwest Missouri for several years. Her involvement in the community was profound, from her active participation in the church to her enjoyment of community activities with friends, such as bowling, quilting/sewing, Bingo, reading, shopping, and watching her favorite TV show, The Price is Right. Her community and family were the pillars of her life, and she found great joy in their company, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.

Doris was also preceded in her death by her infant son, Robert John Worsham; grandson, Chaise Tremayne Dunlap; granddaughter, Stephanie Jean Worsham; and nephew, Tim Raymer.

Other survivors include her eight children: Richard Worsham, Rhae Yancey-Felton (Worsham), Bob Worsham, Roger Worsham, Tia Gilliam (Orick), Richard Dunlap, Chester Dunlap, and Clint Dunlap; 15 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

“The Queen”, my sister, I love her so much.
God called her home so peacefully for which we are grateful.
She was surrounded by love, touch and caring words as she left us. A window was opened so her soul could fly up to Heaven.
Gone from this earth but never forgotten 💔.
    Fly high Big Sister
