Dorothy Bass

Dorothy W. Bass, 92, died at Bethesda Meadow in Ellisville, Missouri, on November 19, 2018. She was born in Banks, Arkansas, on March 5, 1926, to Fred Workman and Bessie Temple Workman. “Dot”married Richmond C. Bass, Jr., on September 27, 1947, and he preceded her in death on August 31, 2015. Together they had four children—Elizabeth Simpson (Andy), of Columbia, Missouri; Richmond C. Bass, III, of Cale, Arkansas; Sara Ann Doll (Keith) of Ellisville, Missouri; and William T. Bass (Melissa) of Palmer Lake, Colorado. Dot and Richmond had 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Dot highly valued meaningful work—whether it was caring for babies or elders, baking cakes, or keeping a beautiful home. She loved her work at Gordon’s Transports in Memphis, TN, and often reminisced about her days there. Above all, she was a Southern homemaker who was happiest when her home was full of family, especially at Christmas time when everyone gathered around the tree and excitedly opened presents.

Dot loved the Lord Jesus and believed in his power to transform lives. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dot and Richmond lived in the South until 2006, when they moved to Missouri to be near family. She lived at The Bluffs in Columbia for three years, and she had many friends there. As she requested, her service of remembrance will be at The Bluffs on Saturday, December 8, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bluffs Life Enrichment Department, 3105 Bluff Creed Drive, Columbia MO, 65201, or to the charity of your choice.

May the peace of Christ sustain you and comfort you all in your grief and also strengthen your hearts as you cherish the memories of Dot–mother, grandmother, friend. Love, Ann

    Hi Beth,

I am sorry about the loss of your mother, Dot. It is so hard to lose parents.

Please know that you have friends at Calvary (and at least one at MUMC). We are here for you if you ever need us.
