Edelynn Jo Bana
Edelynn Jo Bana, 49, of St. Louis, Missouri joined our Creator on April 3, 2023, after over 4
years of bravely battling colorectal cancer.
Edelynn was a devoted and loving wife and mother, selfless and responsible daughter, loving
sister, and thoughtful friend. Even when she was already battling with cancer, she still thought of
her family and of others first, and thoughtfully extended help to others, especially those who
were battling the same disease as her. She brought food to family and friends when they were
sick or just to perk them up, thoughtfully remembered birthdays and special occasions and was
kind to all. She was always the event planner, the one who organizes everything meticulously,
that even her own passing, she has carefully prepared for. Indeed, she has touched so many
lives that will forever leave a beautiful mark in our hearts.
Edd, or Tata as some fondly call her, was born on February 26, 1974 to Edito Pelayo Jo Sr. and
Erlinda Quisido Jo in Cebu City, Philippines. She is the eldest of a brood of three. Her siblings
are Edito Jo Jr, Ethel Jo-Reyes and sister-in-law Maricel Jo.
She married the love of her life, Peter Bana, on December 9, 2000 and has spent 22 wonderful
years of marriage. They have a wonderful son, Lorenzo Jacob Bana, born on Aug 12, 2010.
Edd was great at playing the piano, loved music and had a great voice which she thinks
otherwise. She does not stop at pursuing new things and always carries herself confidently.
Edd was a great writer and very intelligent. She was editor in chief of her school paper since her
primary years until her college years.
As a student, she was a consistent achiever and garnered academic honors every year, aside
from school special awards. In fact, her college graduation gift to her parents was an album
compilation of all her medals and awards from her primary years until her college graduation.
She was always the leader and joined many organizations.
She studied primary school in St. Theresa’s College and her secondary school in Cebu City
National Science High School as a scholar. She finished Bachelor of Science in Nursing in
Velez College and graduated with Latin honors – Magna Cum Laude. She was consistently in
the Top10 Dean’s List of her class. She pursued Masters in Business Administration in the
University of the Philippines for her masters degree and achieved her doctorate degree in
Organization Development and Transformation at Cebu Doctor’s University.
She was a devoted Red Cross volunteer, where she met her husband. This was also her first
job after college. She travelled the world as a Red Cross staff and volunteer and she was so excited to share this with her parents, especially her dad, through postcards she would send
him while he was working as an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) in Saudi.
She worked for a few years as a Human Resource Manager at Airlift Asia before migrating to
the US.
She shortly worked as a nursing aid on her first few months in the US as an immigrant; however,
she was very determined and got her state licensure after just three months and was then
promoted to being a staff nurse. After that, there was no stopping her from moving up her
career.
She is survived by her husband Peter Bana, son Lorenzo Jacob Bana, her bed-ridden father for
10 years Edito Jo Sr., her 82 year old mom Erlinda Jo and her siblings, Edito Jo Jr., Ethel
Jo-Reyes, Maricel Jo, her parents-in-law, Aquilino and Erlinda Bana, brothers-in-law, Michael
Bana and Johari Bana.
Even though she was taken too soon, she lived an extraordinary life surrounded by people who
love her dearly.
Please join us as we celebrate her life at 10am on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at St. Richard
Catholic Church.
An extraordinary person. May Edd joyfully enjoy the place God prepared for her.
Rest in peace Edd.
I had the honor of working with Edelynn at Mercy Health. She welcomed me to the team with open arms and I always admired her cheerful, warm personality and “can-do” attitude. She will be missed so much!
Edelynn and I started working at Mercy a month apart. I soon found that she was very intelligent, funny and kind! We spent 12 years working together and became good friends. I have so many fond memories of our travels together! She fought so hard to stay alive and wanted to be there for Peter and Enzo. Sadly, it was not to be. I will remember her always and miss her every day!
Our prayers and condolences
I was deeply saddened to hear about Edelynn’s passing. Thinking of Enzo and Peter during this difficult time, I only wish that all the memories that they have with Edelynn, now they become true treasures to cherish. I will pray for their emotional strength.
She’s one of the good people I met in my life that until now I still look up because of her great personality… Petit but with powerful charisma that we will surely miss… You’ve been fighting for so long… take your flight now to our creator and may you rest peacefully. RCY Forever
