St. Louis Cremation

Edward Pepper

Edward (Ted) George Pepper, MD passed away on Thursday May 8, 2025. He was born in Ashland, Pennsylvania on February 11, 1940, to George V. and Anna Haley Pepper. He was brother to George, John, James, Regina, and Catherine. Ted had fond memories of growing up in a large, loving family, where he helped with the family beverage business, Pepper’s Ginger Ale, established in 1873.

Following in the footsteps of two brothers, Ted graduated from Mount St.Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Medical school followed at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, and he went on to become a radiologist.

Ted met Lana Thomas when they were both living in the Mansion House in downtown St. Louis. They married in 1970 and have two children. Edward Thomas Pepper (Marta Ault) lives in Denver, Colorado and Haley Ann Pepper lives in St. Louis with her two children Eddie and Tommy.

Ted was an avid tennis player and spent countless hours at AAA Tennis Club in Forest Park. He loved to travel, and his favorite destinations were Telluride, Colorado and Italy. He lived a life of laughter and liked nothing better than to crack an original joke at the slightest provocation, keeping his friends and family in stitches.

In honor of Ted’s love for the former AAA Tennis Club, now known as The Highlands Golf and Tennis Center in Forest Park, 5163 Clayton Ave, a memorial will be held there May 30 at 10 a.m. A livestream will be available at https://www.youtube.com/@solsticeproductionsvideo

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Breakpoint Tennis and Life Skills (breakpointacademy.org) and may also be accepted at the gathering.

We all at Deaconess Hospital loved him! He was always funny, kind and respectful to all of us. If he ran into any of us out side work at a restaurant he always picked up the tab even if there were 10 of us. He was so special and a class act. He was an original…..sorry for your loss.

Peggy and I are so sorry to learn of Ted’s passing. He was always cheerful, funny and colorful when we saw him in the neighborhood — often providing a new perspective on the world around us. We shared his love of Telluride (and yours, too, Lana), and enjoyed hearing the latest from that glorious mountain town. He was a big presence and will be greatly missed.

Ted was a good friend from the early days of the mansion house and for the next 55 year’s like the time I was having dinner at Ted and Lana‘s and Ted had a fire in the fireplace and all of a sudden the room filled with smoke because Ted forgot to open the flu, but fortunately the house didn’t burn down. Thank you for the wonderful memories Richard
