Elaine H. Smitke

Smitke, Elaine Hunter, 90, of St. Louis, MO, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Her only daughter, Lisa S. Kadel, of St. Louis, MO, was by her side. She also leaves behind her furry cat friend, Max.

She was born in Greenville, IL, to Victor and Minnie Hunter on June 22, 1923, and graduated from Greenville High School in the class of 1942. Elaine was the beloved wife of the late Theodore (Ted) Stephen Smitke. Elaine and Ted married in California in 1944 and enjoyed 47 years of marriage and lived in New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, and Illinois. Elaine was a hospital auxiliary volunteer for 26 years at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Florida and St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and traveling.
