Elaine Marie Lang
Elaine Marie (Carter) Lang, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham, Massachusetts at the age of 79. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois on December 6, 1943, to her parents, and she grew up in a loving family.
Elaine was a dedicated elementary school teacher, devoting her time and passion to shaping young minds from 1962 to 1971. She had a natural gift for connecting with her students and fostering their love for learning. Elaine’s impact on the lives of her students will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of being in her classroom.
Outside of her career, Elaine had a deep love for swimming. She found solace and joy in the water, and it became a beloved hobby that brought her peace and happiness throughout her life. Whether it was in high school on the Synchronized Swim Team or at the family cottage at Lake Geneva, WI, Elaine always found comfort in the gentle embrace of the water.
Elaine is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, James, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Their love was a testament to the power of commitment and support. Elaine is also survived by her two children, Nina Kohnen (and her husband Michael of Wellesley, Massachusetts) and Andrew Lang (and his wife Leslie of Chesterfield, Missouri). She was a cherished “Nana” to her six grandchildren: Nathaniel, Zachary, Madalyn, Evelyn, Nicholas, and Olivia. Elaine’s love and guidance will forever be treasured by her family.
In addition to her immediate family, Elaine is survived by her sister, Mary (Carter) Skweres, and her husband Ron, along with their children and grandchildren. The bond between Elaine and her sister was unbreakable, and their shared memories will continue to bring comfort and strength to Mary and the entire family.
Elaine’s remains will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, where she will find eternal rest alongside those who have served our country. A ceremony to honor and celebrate Elaine’s life will be held at a later date in St. Louis, with details to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to a charitable organization of your choice in honor of Elaine’s memory. Your support will continue to make a difference in causes that were close to her heart.
Elaine Marie Lang will always be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and dedication to her family, students, and community. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the memories she created. May she rest in peace.
