Elizabeth Anne (Goodyear) Banet

Elizabeth Anne (Goodyear) Banet, 95, passed away on February 27, 2026, in her home at The Gatesworth in St. Louis, Missouri. Anne was born in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Phillip and Edna Goodyear.

Anne graduated from New Albany High School and earned both her undergraduate degree, graduating cum laude, and her master’s degrees (Education & Counseling) from Spalding University. A particularly special memory for Anne and her family was when her graduation ceremony coincided with her son Tom’s eighth-grade graduation, allowing them to celebrate their academic accomplishments together.

Anne and her husband, Thomas (“Tater”), were active members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany while raising their family. Later, Anne dedicated her time, talents, and treasures to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, her childhood parish.

As an educator, Anne served in key roles within the New Albany-Floyd County (NAFC) Schools, including serving as a summer principal. She played an instrumental part in establishing the reading curriculum for the district, supporting literacy development for all students.

In retirement, her giving spirit focused on many civic and religious interests, including The Caesars Foundation of Floyd County, St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Charities, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and The Greenways Foundation. She was also passionate about the history of New Albany, specifically the Silver Hills Historical Society. Anne was a proud member of the BPOTTAGESWOA Camping Club and considered camping a capstone of her recreational life. After relocating to St. Louis, she continued her philanthropic focus on supporting the homeless and those most in need.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Thomas (2013), her daughter Mary Susan (1999), and her son Thomas (2025). She is survived by her children, Gerald (Paige) and Rebecca (Marjorie); grandchildren Greg (Thomas), Nathan, Benjamin (Gerald), Benjamin (d. 2019), Noah, Alison (Rebecca), Austin (d. 2015), and Abigail (Mary Susan); great-grandchildren Daniel, Claire, Chase, Eleanor, Willa, Harlow, Sadie, and Lennox; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends.
