Emery was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1937 to Joseph and Theresa Miko. He served his country honorably for 8 years in the United States Air Force. For years he was also active directing and acting in the West End Players Guild. He had a great broadcasting voice and narrated several local documentaries and a promotional video for the hospital.

I was lucky enough to know Mike through West End Players Guild. He had a small role in “Barefoot in the Park” several years ago, as the telephone installer at the newlyweds’ apartment. Mike could say more with one look than other actors could with an entire monologue. Kind, funny, talented–and he never took himself too seriously. Sharon, blessings and comfort on your loss.

Louis and I have known Miko for many years through our employment at Shriners Hospitals for Children. He was a friend, a mentor, and a great co-worker to the both of us. I will miss his fatherly advice, words of wisdom, and his calm demeanor. Louis will certainly miss his golfing buddy. What a great man! We feel very fortunate to have had him in our life.

Miko will be missed by everyone he came in contact with. The patients he dealt with everyday at Shriners, the co-workers that listened to his words of advice and considered him a friend, not just their boss, and most of all his family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with them in this time of sorrow.

Emory was a special person at Shriners Hospital, getting his work done with joy and a smile. What knowledge, kindness, and love. I will miss his smile and wisdom. May all the family substitute grief for the joy of having had Emory in their lives. What a treasure. God bless.

I worked with Emery for 16 years. What a great friend. He also narrated several documentaries for me, one winning a Telly award. He had the perfect voice. He was a master at the arts as well as detail for prosthetics. Once he asked me to play little rascals video during morning sessions to quiet roudy kids so they can be measured for braces….it worked perfectly. He will be missed.

The hole left by this man’s passing is too substantial for me to grasp. The thousands of children whose lives and lifestyles were improved because of his caring touch. The co-workers who found him a source of wisdom and humor (and occasional golf tips). The family members who so clearly treasured him.
Death is unavoidable for all of us, and perhaps the best we can hope for is to be remembered with a smile that occasionally rolls into a belly laugh. On that count, Miko has hit another hole-in-one.

    Sharon,

Our deepest condolences. Emery (Mr. Miko) enriched my life and I’m indebted to him for that. His memories for me are both timeless and priceless. He is one of my heroes and will be with me forever. We shared a lot of the same values and views. Super friends are hard to come by. Please keep me aware of the celebration of his life.

Sharon, I just now heard of Mikes passing. As you might know I have been a Shriner for many years. I was recently at the hospital and asked to see Emory.
when I was informed of the sad news.
A great person. Will be missed by many.

Oh, my God. I’m heartbroken. Emery (Mike) was one of my best friends in St. Louis theatre. Leslie and I would go to Emery’s and Sharon’s house on weekends and play board games, and we all had a blast. I had the good fortune to work with him in many plays. I have missed him for years, but just found out that he passed. My heart goes out to Sharon and their family and friends. Emery always said he and I had a “kinship of the weird”. The only solace I can take is that God is having a few laughs. God bless you, dude.
