    Kristi and Wayne,
I am at a loss for words! I wish I had that magic saying that would help make everything better but I don’t. Erica has touched so many people’s lives, her bubbly personality was contagious no matter what type of day it was. She was such a strong person, no matter what the circumstances were. I strongly believe she was sent here to teach all of us a thing or two. This is truly our loss and we at SLUCare family will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.

“The risk of love is loss, and the price of loss is grief – But the pain of grief is only a shadow when compared with the pain of never risking love.”
    –Hilary Stanton Zunin

“I don’t think of all the misery, but of all the beauty that remains.”
    –Anne Frank

“You will lose someone you can’t live without, and your heart will be badly broken, and the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. But this is also the good news. They live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you come through. It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly – that still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance with the limp.”
    –Anne Lamott

“While grief is fresh, every attempt to divert only irritates. You must wait till it be digested, and then amusement will dissipate the remains of it.”
    –Samuel Johnson

“Sometimes, only one person is missing, and the whole world seems depopulated.”
    –Alphonse de Lamartine, Méditations Poétiques

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen nor even touched, but just felt in the heart.”
    –Helen Keller

Erica smile would light up a space. She always was kind and respectful to our patients especially those in the greatest need. She always talked so lovingly about her family, her pets and her music. But most of all her family. So always remember her love.

What an amazing kind heart. A true gift.
Thank you for sharing her with our office and our patients.
My prayers are with you and your family.

    Dear Erica,
I remember the very first time you walked into our 4th grade class. You were fearless.Mighty. And brave. Ever so brave. We were all taken back by your ability to know exactly who you are, what you stood for, and why. You never needed a soap box because you came with plenty already prepared. I loved listening to you share your dreams, you were one of the most sincere people I’ve ever met. And no dream was too small for you.
I enjoyed doing plays and musicals with you. Which believe it or not was difficult, because you never liked to share the stage ; )
I think my favorite part of growing up with you though was knowing your heart and passion for those you loved. I remember the first time you introduced us to your little sister. Who at even a young age reviled you in smiles and giggles. You were so proud of her. You told of very clearly that if we ever messed with her we would have to deal with you! But that’s how you were. If you loved someone you really loved them. Countless times in high school I would have to talk you down from taking matters in your own hands because the ways of this world never sat well or whitely with you.
I am sad that you have left this world and that there’s no defender of all those you leave behind. But your mark on them no matter how big or small is irreplaceable.
I hope you are at peace.
    To Erica’s family,
What a marvel that you were able to spend so much time with her. God really created a unique blessing in her. And I can only image your loss. Please know your in my thoughts and prayers at this time.
May God’s grace and peace be with us all.

I recall thinking to myself that I wished I had the joy of living that Erica had. She’d share her plans for the weekend (even staying home and reading one of her books) and her excitement was palpable; from how happy she was, you’d think she was about to go on a cruise to some exotic destination! She got such a kick out of simple things — like inflatable Christmas yard ornaments, pets, her bike, listening to 80s’ tributes bands …. you get the picture.

  42. Greg Ward on December 14, 2016 at 4:45 pm

    Kristi, Wayne and Kate,
What a beautiful person! I can only hope my daughters will grow up to be so kind, thoughtful, loving and caring. She tried so hard to make this world a better place for all. How I looked forward to Monday AM to hear about her weekend and what new Micro-brew she tried or what band she went to hear. How she already had her next weekend planned already! How she was writing this person, author, corporation, or even the President of France! She was so brave and truly wanted to stand up for all those she felt were wronged. I miss my daily AM text telling me which Pod at the office I was working out of (you would think after years I would know) but when I got the text I knew she was my MA for the day. Such an honor to have had her in our lives. I will be praying for you all and I know she is in a better place. I’m so thankful I finally got to have a drink with her at the Christmas party!

I love and miss my always. Keep smiling and spreading your infectious smiles and laughs!!!!

My prayers for comfort and peace to all those who loved Erica.

  79. Ann Smith on December 16, 2016 at 12:34 pm

    Dear Karpinski Family:

I know that there are no words of condolence that can plumb the depths of your grief. I can only express my deep, heartfelt sorrow for your loss.

We have never met and I did not know Erica, but photographs show the ethereal beauty and light that emanated from her in every aspect of her life.

You will undoubtedly hear from several or perhaps even many of us who travel this same unwilling road of parental grief and sorrow; those who feel the need to reach out to let you know that we stand in solidarity, supporting you from afar with the cloak of spiritual strength.

What is made eminently clear on this journey of sorrow and tears is that love is truly eternal.

Even though your world has collapsed and everything in your lives has dissolved into insignificance, love lives on.

Your love for Erica is stronger than ever and her love for you survives – forever.
No highwayman can plunder that love.

Rest in peach beautiful light and may strength and peach be with the family who love you so dearly.

My sincere condolences to Erica’s parents and family. I am so sorry for your loss. A young life with so much potential gone too soon. You are in my prayers. May the warm memories linger longer than the pain of losing her. May the God of love and mercy comfort your hearts and his beautiful promises reassure and support you in the days ahead.

Sorry for your loss. Erica was a shining light wherever she went and I have many memories of her at local concerts. Always worried about making sure others were doing well before anything. RIP

I will miss Erica very much. She appreciated things most people took for granted. She was full of life and passionate about life. It was a blessing getting to know her and working with her. She was my dose of humble every morning when she would give me a pep talk to get thru the day.
