Francis J. Roth
April 10, 1926—–December 19, 2019
He was born Franz John Roth to immigrant parents from Austria, Mathias and Maria (Kotrion) Roth. Before he joined the Air Force during World War II he adopted the name, Francis. He met his future wife, Jean, at Wagner Electric where they both worked. Stationed in the Pacific, he served two years for the Air Force and soon after coming home he married Jean on September 7, 1946. They bought a home in Berkeley, MO and later moved to Mehlville, MO.
Most of his career was at American Car and Foundry Company, a manufacturer of railroad cars. He retired at age 57 when the St. Louis City plant closed. He was a lifelong learner and a very self-disciplined person, who lived a very healthy lifestyle for at least 50 of his 93 years.
His parents, twin sisters, and ex-wife passed before him. He is survived by his three children, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a wonderful niece along with her family.
His wish became true when St. Louis University School of Medicine accepted his body
for medical education and research. His remains will be buried at their community grave
at Sts. Peter & Paul cemetery. Contributions to the school may be made in his honor.
