Franz Schager, 95, of Affton, Missouri, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, departed this life peacefully on August 29, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on May 27, 1928 and was the beloved husband of 69 years to Magdalena, treasured dad of Heidi (Jim) Dauphine and Trudy Scott, cherished Opa of Jaime (Brian) Eder and Kristen (Allen) Coleman and great-Opa of Alexis and Kaitlyn Moentmann, TJ Eder, Hunter and Ada Coleman.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and remembered always.

He had a green thumb and enjoyed working in his garden and was always taking cuttings and starting new plants and then happily giving them away.  His greatest love was his family that he would help in whatever way possible.  He had a fondness of practical jokes and took pleasure in teasing everyone and then trying – unsuccessfully – to hold back a huge laugh and smile.

A visitation to honor Franz will be held on September 15, from 10-11 a.m. at Seven Holy Founders Catholic Church located at 6737 S Rock Hill Rd. A Mass will immediately follow the visitation at 11 a.m., also at the church.

In memory of Franz Schager, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Stray Rescue of St. Louis.  Both charities represent two of his favorites – children and animals.
